Biology Project Reflection
What i did for this project was set up management strategies for trying to control Russian Knapweed in the west. I chose to do a project on invasive species because I know how much of an issue they are especially in Colorado. I chose Russian Knapweed because its one of one of the most noxious weeds in Colorado and Durango.
I feel like my strongest management strategy is putting goats and sheep in fields to eat the weeds and temporarily control them because they aren't an herbicide that'll get in the water table, and they aren't insects that can possibly be consumed by birds and such animals so they'll last longer in the long run.
Some skills that I developed during this project were being able to conduct better research and write a management plan proposal in a professional way. I also learned how to find, read, and understand scholarly articles and use in-text citations.
What I learned about ecology during this project was the impact of invasive species in our area, and all areas all over the U.S.
I don't feel like this project caused me to think any differently about invasive species or the impact that they have on the native population of an area. I feel like I had most of the knowledge and I applied that to this project.
