El Periodismo Project Reflection
By Keagan Felker
For this project, we were placed in groups of three and our objective was to create a video/newscast that consisted of our news articles. One of us researched a current event in Spain, one of us did an advertisement and the other did a product. Our original research consisted of each of us researching a topic. For mine, I did current events involving Spain. For one of my articles, I focused on Spain’s conflict over Gibraltar, and my second I did an article on Catalina and Spain. The bulk of this research was done during the first semester. The actual collaboration part was done over second semester.
I connected to this project through using me writing skills I have so far achieved in Spanish. I actually liked being able to actually record my video-just like a real news cast.
One of the challenges of this project for me, was trying to make my first article long enough to meet the expectation. This unfortunately was not happening-so instead of trying to string out my one article, as an alternative to one long article, I was allowed to create a second article on a different event including Spain.
Through this project, I learned that sometimes I really need to persevere to get what I need accomplished. I also learned that I need to sometimes take more responsibility when one person doesn’t do it. I learned many new vocabulary terms and writing techniques. I learned that I need to focus and persevere to get something done and done well. Also to advocate if I need help with any issue.
Since we did this research for a month, I learned a lot of new phrases and terms that I can use in my writing as well as speaking. I believe that my speaking skills were also improved through this project. Being able to record and read what we had written, really helped me grow as a speaker and writer. It was also a great learning experience in the sense that I got to research events and news from another country besides our own. It gave me a lot of great insight into other country’s events and issues.
