Truth of War Project Reflection
Truth of War Project Reflection
The Truth of War Project was our first big project of the year. The point of this project was to answer the prompt question; “What is the truth of war for a soldier?” Lori gave us the task of writing an essay that addresses the question in at least six paragraphs. The things we did prior to starting work on this project were that we went over WWI and read the novel All Quiet on the Western Front. We talked about trench warfare, allies and enemies. Then we went over WWII and read Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five. For WWII, we learned about the advancement from trench warfare to urban warfare. We also learned about their advancements in weaponry and tactics. After reading and reviewing these two novels, we started work on our Truth of War Project; which could have consisted of a painting, a sculpture, a drawing, a comic strip, etc...I chose to do a cutout of two soldiers-one wounded, and one healthy-in front of a cutout explosion with a battle zone backdrop.
Animas is built off of the Habits of Heart and Mind. They are a large part of our culture. The Habit of Heart and Mind I used most in my project would be perspective. I feel that this is best fit because I had the chance to speak my own idea of what the truth of war for a soldier is.
Two substantial revisions I made to my essay would be adding better evidence and removing unwanted, useless information that didn’t support my argument. By adding stronger evidence, it strengthened my argument with good, backing evidence. By taking out useless information and evidence from my essay, this also contributed to strengthening my argument because it only left me with the useful, good evidence and analyses.
If I had another week to work on this project and essay, I probably wouldn’t change anything! I think that I did my project the best I could and I am very proud of it! And I feel like everyone else was as well.
