Project Reflection
The goal of this project was for us to choose a specific genocide from the past to write a research paper and an op-ed article on. We also had to create a political cartoon to show what we had been writing on for our thesis. So what I did for the Op-Ed / Political Cartoon Project was that I wrote a thesis about how Nazi propaganda during the Holocaust influenced the imprisonment of the Jews and also how the “Nuremberg Laws” had virtually “stripped” the Jews of every right that they had. I felt like this was a strong idea to go off of for a political cartoon especially because it gave me the chance to show general idea of what happened with a little bit of my own personal flair and style to add to it artistically. Looking back at the political cartoons I had done earlier this year, and even my very first draft of this last political cartoon, I’ve grown a lot as an artist in the sense of how much detail and time I've been putting into them since I started. For example, just on this last cartoon, the idea of a Jew being “stripped of his rights” had come to me at literally 11:30 pm while I was half asleep – I had to get the idea down while it was still fresh in my mind so I jumped out of bed and sketched it in my drawing book. I liked it so much that I kept that one idea all the way until the final draft of the cartoon. Although the appearance had become more professional, detailed, and thought out, I kept the initial idea and set up of it pretty much the same the whole way through. I’m really proud of how my final cartoon turned out as well. The writing I did for this assignment was different from what I've done before because we couldn't use “TEA” Paragraphs, which are longer and more detailed than the op-ed’s we had to write for this project which were shorter, more concise, and less detailed than what I'm used to. I actually really liked this style of writing, mainly because it lets you make your paragraphs and articles shorter and more concise which means that it doesn't take as much to get your point across as it would in say a TEA Paragraph. The set up of these are basically “short and sweet” letting you say what you need too without too much other thought and detail. I think that I could apply this type of writing to future assignments by using the idea of not using too much additional thought other than information and details that directly get my point across with some specific, straight forward evidence and analysis. |
